Calling all who oppose SB1070: families, students, artists, athletes, musicians, and poets, people of all ethnicities, religions, orientation and nations. SB1070 represents another step in the wrong direction for Arizona.

There is widespread opposition to this unjust law, it’s time to show it! Host an event during our 30 days for Human Rights, as we unite to defeat this law and flip the script on hate policies that criminalize our community.

What is it?

Everyday from June 28 – July 28 an event will be held to demonstrate opposition to SB1070 and support for human rights, organized by a diverse array of organizations and communities. Our campaign seeks to defeat SB1070 and do away with policies like 287(g) and Secure Communities. These events will create momentum towards a National Day of Non-Compliance on July 29th, when the law is set to be implemented in the state of Arizona. Join us in creating an event that shows your communities’ opposition to SB1070 and your support for human rights!

What kind of events?

Events can range from street theater, rallies, educational forums, protests, to poetry readings, fundraisers, concerts, mixers, mural making sessions…the options are endless. You can link an existing event to this 30-day series as well. Events should be explicit in their opposition to SB1070 and provide education on the issue, as well as communicate ways for people to participate in the campaign or support the cause.

Ways folks can support – the ask:

There is a spectrum of ways folks can support the campaign and demonstrate their opposition to the law:

Join Puente Arizona and/or form a neighborhood committee of defense
Donate to the campaign
Send a personal message to President Obama
Share personal stories of how you or your family are impacted
Register to vote or participate in voter mobilization activities
Pledge to not comply with the law and participate in civil resistance on July 29th
Business owners can sign up as a ‘Human Rights Zone’
Organize more events, or propose other ways to support!
